Abstract


EVALUATION BY PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS CANDIDATE OF TURKEY'S MIDDLE EAST STRATEGY

The Middle East is a political concept. With the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, India and China shortened the sea route. The region is called the 'Middle East' in order to determine the new target by the British occupying the southern shores of Arabia outside the Ottoman lands. Having a narrow and closed meaning until 1939, the Middle East began to be used in official sources of the British Government. Today, geographical boundaries are defined as the area surrounded by the Black Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Basra and the Caspian Sea. The main strategic importance of the Middle East was accelerated in the beginning of the 20th century with the increase in the availability and importance of oil. 65% of the world's oil is in this region and the cost per barrel is very low. Moreover, natural gas resources have caused the whole world's eyes to plant in this region. In this study, we aimed to put forward primary school teachers candidates of Turkey's Middle East strategy with their opinions and suggestions. These are the ones who will perform the most important task in raising future generations. In the study, case study model was used as qualitative research methods. The study group of the researchers was the student candidates who were studying at Nevsehir Haci Bektaş Veli University and Hasan Kalyoncu University in the academic year of 2017-2018. In the study group ‘Turkey Geography and Geopolitics' primary school teaching, which took place in the 2nd grade students take the course. As the sampling method, the sampling method of the objective sampling method is used. In this study, the criteria, teacher candidates ‘Turkey Geography and Geopolitics' is that they have learned their lesson. In this study interview was used as data collection tool. In the first phase of the study, the literature on the subject was searched and a theoretical basis was established and a semi-structured interview form consisting of 4 questions was developed by using the literature knowledge. The prepared questions were answered with the aim of reaching the goal in line with the aim and completed with expert opinion. Questions on the form of teachers as to Turkey's Middle East strategy; objectives, disadvantaged situations, strategies, and future assessments. A descriptive analysis approach was used in the analysis of qualitative data collected in the study. In descriptive analysis, direct citation is frequently given to reflect the views of the individuals interviewed or observed in a striking way.
