Abstract

The Relationship Between Teachers’ Perceptions to Shared Leadership In Schools And Levels of Organizational Cynicism

he research, which aims to determine the relationship between shared leadership practices applied in schools and teachers' organizational cynicism levels, is a relational screening model. The population of the research consists of teachers working in primary, secondary and high schools in Denizli in 2018-2019 academic year. In total, 5865 teachers in Denizli create the population of the research. The sample of the study consists of 407 teachers working in Denizli. The data were collected with”Shared Leadership Perception Scale” and “Organizational Cynicism Scale for Teachers”. The skewness and kurtosis coefficients of the research variables were examined to determine which kind of analysis should be performed on the data. Since the data were normally distributed, t-Test, ANOVA and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis techniques were used. The results of the research are indicated as follows. According to the research, teachers' perception levels of shared leadership practices in schools are high. In the research, it was seen that teachers' perceptions about the implementation of shared leadership in schools were similar in terms of gender and working time in the same school. In the research, it was found that there is a significant difference between the teachers' perceptions regarding the application of some dimensions of shared leadership according to the professional seniority, the number of teachers in the school and the level of school worked. According to the results of the other variable of the study, teachers' organizational cynicism levels are low. Organizational cynicism levels differ according to the gender of teachers, the number of teachers in the school they work and the school levels they work. According to the variables of professional seniority and working time in the same school, cynicism levels of teachers do not differ. Also, a significant negative correlation was found between teachers' perceptions of shared leadership practices in schools and organizational cynicism levels. Finally, it was observed that shared leadership practices in schools significantly predict teachers' organizational cynicism levels at all school levels. The increase in shared leadership practices in schools leads to a decrease in teachers' levels of organizational cynicism. Therefore, school administrators need to be trained in order to raise awareness on this issue.
