Abstract


An Investigation of Use of Nursery and Game Rhymes in Preschool Education

In this research, we aim to make use of nursery and game rhymes in preschool education. This research aims to answer these questions: “What is the status of the nursery and game rhymes books in the classroom libraries of preschool institutions?”, “How are your teachers regarding the awareness of children's nursery and game rhymes? ”, “How is the information about the children's nursery and game rhymes?" The study group of this research is composed of 741 children and 47 pre-school teachers who are attending pre-school education institutions in Tavşanlı district of Kütahya in 2018-2019 academic year. As the sample selection technique, easily accessible sampling method was chosen. Data Collection Process consists of five stages. Preparation of Interview Form, Research Permit Stage, Interview with Teachers, Interview with Students, Screening of Class Library. The data in the study were analyzed using descriptive and content analysis techniques. When the results of the research were examined, it was observed that there was no book containing in preschool classrooms and school libraries, and the number of books containing rhymes was insufficient; When the methods preferred by the teachers in the nursery rhymes and letters are used, it is observed that they generally use the repeat method; It was concluded that most of the pre-school teachers reached the nursery rhymes and censuses via internet. In addition, the majority of preschool teachers stated that they found themselves inadequate in terms of nursery rhymes and accountants; some even say that they tend to songs rather than rhymes and singles, while others say that there is not much time left for rhymes. When the findings of the study were examined, the majority of the preschool teachers stated that the preschool curriculum did not sufficiently support nursery rhymes and censuses. Preschool children generally know a few nursery rhymes. In the study, it was found that the children learned the nursery rhymes and censuses mostly from their mothers and later from their teachers.
