Abstract


The Relationship Between Shooting Performance and Balance Performance in Biathletes

It is considered an important ability to set the specific balance quickly in sport. Under varying terrain conditions and compulsive physiological pressures such as biathlon where need technical abilities, a large postural sway can be observed. Also biathlon shots are a complex motor ability requiring postural equilibrium.This study aimed at analyzing the correlation between dynamic balance performances and shooting performance of the biathletes. Fifteen volunteer biathletes (aged, 18.7±0.36 years; heigth, 171.5±1.77 cm; weight, 65±2.19 kg and training age, 4.47±0.29 years) participated in this study. Y Balance TestTM was used to determine biatletes’ dynamic balance performance. Y Balance TestTM scores were obtained bilaterally for anterior (ANT), posterolateral (PL), and posteromedial (PM) direction. The percentage of shooting was determined according to their shooting accuracy in the 7.5 km time-trail sprint. SPSS (Ver.23)was used for all statistical calculations.Spearman correlation analysis was used to determine the relationships between shooting accuracy and dynamic balance scores. The present study showed that only a significant positive correlation between shooting performance and right-limb posteromedial score (r= 0.31, p<0.003). There were no statically significant correlation observed between shooting accuracy and right leg anterior and posterolateralscores, andleftleganterior, posteromedialandposterolateral scores, respectively (r= 0.31, p>0.26), (r= 0.32, p>0.25),(r= 0.32, p>0.24), (r= 0.43, p>0.11), (r= 0.18, p>0.53). In conclusion, it can be said that the dynamic balance performance is not a significant effect on shooting performance.Also future studies should draw attention to the shooting time.
